The Best Day Ever!

The other day, I had the best evening ever! I don't remember what I did earlier in the day, I may have been off work and just ran errands. I just remember I got home and sat out in the backyard at the umbrella table. I read my book for like 2 hours. I just remember it felt so good outside, like a hug from nature! It was warm and breezy, and the air smelled good. I had my dogs with me, and the cats were spattered about and encircling me from their various perches. Everything was calm and peaceful. The birds were singing. And every evening there are 2, or 3, or sometimes even an entire herd of deer that come quietly in the back of the yard by the woods. They make their way down the entire length of that easement that probably runs the length of about 20 houses. This evening it was just a mother and her young doe that came quietly into the yard. They always look up when they feel us watching, and sometimes they will take a few steps toward us. Of course if my dogs see them, they'll bark and run towards them. This night, the dogs didn't notice. They seemed to be enjoying the outside as much as I was. I kept leaning back in my chair, looking up at the sky and clouds. I thought about how rarely, as grownups, we step back and look at the sky. I could have stayed out there all night. It was still pretty light out when I decided I should go in and do something useful. The dogs were hesitant to come in, but when I was finally able to get them in there was an immediate downpour! It didn't just start slowly from a trickle, it was like someond turned the shower on full blast, with a swift twist of the knob! I love rain so I felt like I was getting another treat. I came in and sat by the window, and listened, and watched, and smelled the rain as it came down. It was all just so perfect. Not only was that the best day I had all summer but, I've been feeling pretty good ever since that day!
